Mainwanderweg Spessart
From Karlstadt to Gemünden
The tour begins
in the center of Stetten, right next to the church of St. Albanus. After a
gentle climb up to Kürbishöhe, you can enjoy the view of the Werntal valley and as far as the Rhön on a clear day.
Alternatively, you can also start the wine trail from the hiking parking lot on the heights, which you can easily reach from the connecting road (MSP 8) between Himmelstadt (B27) and Stetten (please follow the signs "terroir f").
After the Kürbishöhe, the trail continues into the Stetten vineyards with its famous "Stettener Stein" and "Karlstadter Roßtal" vineyards. Along the way, information boards provide information about viticulture, grape varieties and much more.
A special tip is the "terroir f" viewpoint, which, under the motto: "Wine and Main", provides information about the different types of rock along the Main, among other things, and from which you have a wonderful view of the Main valley. No wonder: in 2020, the viewpoint was named the most beautiful wine view in Franconia.
Worth seeing: "Stettener Stein" and "Karlstadter Roßtal" vineyards, panoramic views, stone wine hut, terroir f

Circular hiking trail
Across forests and meadows with fantastic views from the vineyard
From the Mainpromenade hotel, you first walk away from the Main riverbank in the direction of the stadium. Passing the stadium, you will soon reach Karlstadt's local mountain, which offers the first magnificent view. Continue through fields and meadows and down into the Werntal valley near Stetten. A small climb follows and after you have crossed the B26, you come to the beginning of a section where the more than 3,500 year-old tumuli of the Spessart await you. After you have duly admired these fascinating sights, comes the toughest section of your tour. But the steep climb up the vineyards is worth every drop of sweat, because at the top you are rewarded with a view of boundless nature. You then hike back to Karlstadt along the Marienwanderweg and past the bird nature trail.
